New York, NY (September 20, 2013) – A record number of contracts completed between the New York region’s Women Business Enterprises (WBEs), corporate members and the city and state of New York, were announced today at the twelfth annual Breakthrough Breakfast, hosted by The Women Presidents’ Educational Organization (WPEO).  The winners of the Done DealsTM challenge were also announced, based either on the highest dollar amount, or the total number of deals reported. Over 350 Women Business Enterprises (WBEs) from New York, New Jersey, Southern Connecticut, Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia attended today’s event.

Over 45,000 contracts were completed between March 31st 2012 and April 1st 2013, representing a 221% increase from 14,000 contracts completed during the same time period in 2012.

The Done Deals Challenge tracks the success of WPEO-certified WBEs in accessing business opportunities with Fortune 1000 companies, WPEO corporate members and the government. Held for the first time in 2005, the program measures, acknowledges and recognizes the impact that the WPEO has had on significantly increasing business opportunities in contracting activity.

“We’ve seen landmark growth in the number of Done Deals reported over the course of the last year,” said Marsha Firestone, Ph.D., president & founder of the WPEO. “The program is a valuable way to connect WBEs with potential business partners. It supports our mission to provide our WBEs with the kind of opportunities that foster connections between other WBEs, corporations, and the government,” she said.

WPEO Board Chair, Eliseo Rojas, Vice President of Global Sourcing & Procurement for The Interpublic Group, said “The record breaking number of contracts reported this year as part of the 2013 Done Deals program is a testament to the importance of certification and the value that WBEs bring to corporations.
